FEES

Better charges $40 per hour for visits to be paid by one or both parties. We have a sliding scale available for those that qualify. Proof of income is mandatory if applying for sliding scale fees.

HOW IT WORKS

Visiting Parent: If you have a court order stipulating that you are required to have supervision while visiting with your children, then we can help. Download the application or call our office to have an application mailed to you. Fill this out, and send it back with ten dollars ($10); we will process this application. Once we receive the application and fee, we will contact you for an intake/registration in our San Luis Obispo office. At that time, we will ask you to sign our contract. There is a fifteen dollar fee ($15) for your registration.

Custodial Parent/Guardian: If your spouse or the other party has been ordered to have visitations utilizing a supervisor, we ask that you download the application or call our office to have an application mailed to you. Fill this out, and send it back with ten dollars ($10) and we will process this application. Once we receive the application and fee, we will contact you for an intake/registration in our San Luis Obispo office. At that time, we will ask you to sign our contract. BETTER SVP: BETTER provides trained and background checked monitors. They are located throughout the county and can provide a safe and secure visit for your children. BETTER will coordinate scheduling of visitation dates, times and locations, as well as drop off and pick up information. Payment for visits as well as location requests must be in our office at least two weeks before a visit can occur. If payment is not received on time (two weeks prior to visit) the visit will be canceled.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO BEGIN VISITS?

• Once all parties have completed their applications and intake/registration, we are able to begin visits. This process can take up to two weeks.

WHAT CAN BETTER DO?

• BETTER is available to help you build and maintain a relationship with your children, during and after your divorce, or separation.

• BETTER can provide trained, and background checked supervision monitors for your court ordered visitation.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR BETTER?

• Any parent residing in San Luis Obispo County or whose children now reside here is eligible for our services.  All parents must have a valid court order setting out the parameters of their visitations.

WHY IS THERE A NEED FOR BETTER?

• There is no other community based affordable program that offers visitation monitors for court ordered supervised visitation.
• Many parents are unable to see their children and maintain a healthy parental relationship with them as they grow and develop.
• Many parents in San Luis Obispo County have not seen their children for years because of a financial barrier to paying for supervision.

When the Women’s Community Center looked into this appalling situation and discovered how true were the anecdotes we had been hearing, we knew we had to do something about it. That led to the formation of BETTER Supervised Visitation Program.
